We have an additional twenty-five assistant professors and, as I have stated, we will customize your training needs to cover exactly what
you want and clarify the objective we want your employees to obtain.
A Sample of Topics You May Wish to Consider
1. Lean Manufacturing Training that would be at your facility, so we can relate to what needs to be done and train your people to make
effective decisions by addressing the Five S’s and the Seven Toyota Wastes.
We will train and implement a Kaizen event. In only five days, you will see results. Friday is the day of celebration, and we will have your
team members trained to put on a presentation of what they accomplished.
2. We will train your people on SMED. It is a “single-minute exchange of dies.”
We will work with your people to teach them how to reduce set-up time by 30% to 50%. Our objective is to reduce lead time for
customers dramatically—by a minimum of 25%.
3. We will train your people on use of strategic Kanbans, which is unique to Knight's Business Institute because we have taken
Kanbans several steps beyond just controlling inventory.
We like to use the 20/80 rule in evaluating your customers. I am sure you have heard of it. It says that 20% of anything will show 80% of
the volume, so the 20% we are addressing would be 80% of your customers. We would set them up on a special Kanban, where you
can deliver in less than twenty-four hours at a premium. This is a big competitive advantage for you. We would also address the lower
volume units (which are 80%), and identify the key purchase components and establish Kanbans with suppliers. One of the failures we
have seen in manufacturing is that management uses Kanbans excessively. We do not advise that, and we have some secrets we share
with you that can reduce your inventory 30% to 40% and your lead times 50% to 80%. This is a powerful technique we have.
4. We see weakness in middle management in that, many times they are an outstanding hourly person on Friday and on Monday they
become the supervisor. If you are not careful, then you can not only have a failure as a supervisor but also lose an exceptional hourly
person. We have a special supervisor training method that makes the supervisor a leader, a team player, and not only highly
productive, but also able to motivate his team to be successful.
5. We are fanatical about the needs for quality. You can have the best design and cost, but without quality you will go bankrupt. We
believe that quality is a great way to establish discipline in your culture that spreads over to all the work being done internally or
externally. I personally believe that this is the skeleton of any organization for both hourly and salary personnel. Once it is
accomplished, then the payoff begins and all work being done is unbelievable. American industry has not really accepted this as they
should, and they allow the financial people to cut their budgets when things are going well. The panic begins when the warranty costs
go out of sight or the customers go elsewhere. This is a very powerful and motivational training program.
Summary
Our purpose here is to highlight only a few of the many choices you have for training. Again, I emphasize that the best way to look at a
training program is to let us come in and evaluate your business with you. Then we can start the right programs. We feel so strongly
about this that we will not charge you for our time to build a program that fits your needs.
Our faculty is a powerful team. We are all actively involved, and it is not a bureaucracy. I personally participate in training, and I set the
example by giving my cell phone number. I want you to be able to reach me immediately and not receive the typical landline phone
answer, “He’s in a meeting,” or “He’s unavailable.” My cell phone number is (865) 405-2737. Let us chat and discuss any questions you
might have.
With much respect,
Tom Coulter

*Special note: We give a written test to each of your employees in order to measure how much he or she is absorbing from our training.
Also, we give a free certificate to each employee for completing our training.
